RollPros Announces Pivot Away from Cannabis

April 1, 2025

Effective immediately, we at RollPros are announcing a complete pivot into what we have determined is the next industry ripe for disruption: sushi.

Says RollPros CEO Kyle Loucks, “we always saw the whole cannabis thing as a stepping stone. It was a convenient way for us to get to where our true passion lies: raw fish.”

For the past six months, RollPros’ patented TruRoll technology has been redesigned to produce tight, perfectly formed sushi rolls. The Blackbird, now renamed Blackfish, is capable of producing sushi rolls with adjustable fish to rice ratios at a clip of 1200 per hour. Additionally, they maintain a consistency far superior to those rolled by hand.

According to Loucks, “I’ve always believed consumers should be able to walk into a gas station at 2:00am and buy a delicious spicy tuna roll with a side of tasty eel sauce. But the quality was just never there. We intend to fix that problem.”

The entire RollPros team has been supportive of this big change, and are adapting company culture to fit as well. Where previously a freshly-rolled joint might have been shared amongst employees at the end of their work day, for the past 2 months they’ve been experimenting with sharing salmon skin rolls, rainbow rolls, and Philadelphia rolls.

I thought a nice joint was a great way to unwind. But nothing makes me feel quite the same as circling up with my friends around a fat spider roll with a big helping of salmon roe on top

The process of reconfiguring the engineering department to handle the enormous amounts of raw fish required for the development of the Blackfish has not been without challenges.

“There is definitely a strong fishy smell in the office that we’ve had to get used to. And yeah, our spouses have been complaining about us smelling like an alleyway fish market when we get home,” says RollPros COO Nick Buck, his voice cracking with emotion, “but when we saw that first perfectly-formed California roll come off the machine… that made it all worth while.”

To celebrate the occasion, RollPros gifted each employee with a pair of custom-designed chopsticks reflecting the newly-updated RollPros logo, and a limited-edition set of sushi dish ware. These will be available for purchase on the RollPros shopify store by next month.

Customers interested in adapting their Blackbirds to roll sushi can purchase the Blackfish upgrade kit for $29,500

Starting April 1, all future machine deliveries will be configured for sushi production.

“We’d like to thank our cannabis-oriented customers for all their support over the years, and hope they’ll join us on our new quest to make quality sushi rolls accessible to all,” concludes Loucks.
